Introduction

Maisons du Monde is a European homeware retailer which makes products with wood coming mainly from India, Indonesia, Canada, New Zealand and the US.

Objectives

We work with MdM to achieve more responsibility within its supply chains. At the start of the partnership the main focus was to gain supply chain transparency and visibility of the wood species in order to understand where improvements needed to be made. Then we focussed on assessing the health and safety conditions at the factories level. We also support them in achieving compliance with the EUTR (European Timber Regulation), conducting assessments of wood sources to check their level of legality. We developed a dedicated program for the Indian market as MDM is procuring a lot of furniture in this country. Our goal is to give 100% guarantee to MDM about the legality of their Indian procurement.

Key Milestones

Dec 2018

198 factory visits in 2018

Our Work

Maisons du Monde are determined to increase the number of their sources who supply responsible wood (more than 60% of these sources already supply responsible wood as of 2018). At the beginning of 2017 we introduced three new Indian suppliers to follow the scope of the Wood Control System. This specific approach allows MDM to get more than 50,000 pieces of furniture with full traceability, communicated through QR codes on the products.
