PROJECT LEADER, PROGRAMS' IMPLEMENTATION - KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

Earthworm Foundation is seeking a motivated Project Leader, Programs’ Implementations, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with strong knowledge in the oil palm landscape in Malaysia, excellent communication and writing skills, passionate about driving transformation across connected supply chains, and interested in a career with a dynamic non-profit that builds relationships with companies, governments and civil society organizations to bring responsible products to market.

The Project Leader, in charge of coordinating social activities, will support the Project Manager of the Program Implementation Team in achieving the team objectives with a focus on, but not limited to the social programs.

He/she will propose, develop and supervise the implementation of the social programs to be carried out by the Programs Implementation Team. The Project Leader will also ensure alignment between Social Implementation Programs and work performed by EF’s Malaysia Respect team in developing resources in field of Forced & Bonded Labour, Ethical Recruitment and Children on Plantation.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation of social programs in the field, by engaging with suppliers in introducing the programs and providing updates on supplier engagement framework;
  • Directly engaging with suppliers on one-on-one basis, and through broad level engagements, to monitor progress, develop action plans, facilitate meetings and conduct dedicated training sessions;
  • Support in training, mentoring and providing on-the-ground guidance to Programs’ Implementation Team members;
  • Support in resource development, translation of documents, and ensuring optimized communication flows between Programs’ Implementation Team and other teams;
  • Support the Programs Implementation team Manager in planning the team’s activities and ensuring delivery targets are satisfactorily met;
  • Providing strategic advice to improve Programs Implementation Team’s engagement process, and identify opportunities for business development;
  • Support the development of social monitoring and verification strategies. Work closely with the impact measurement team;
  • Communicate with member managers and Senior Management Team to communicate on progress and challenges;
  • Join ad hoc meetings with members when required to ensure alignment with members’ work plans;
  • Support Respect Team in collection of field data (progress indicators).

Requirements

  • Bachelor/Postgraduate degree holder or other equivalent higher level training in social sciences, sociology and/or other related fields;
  • Proven at least 3 to 5 years work experience in project management, social and human-rights based issues or in fields related to sustainability, environment or palm oil supply chain;
  • Proven field based experience in resolving issues through socialization, conflict resolution, achieving alignment, and proposing workable solutions;
  • Project management experience - Experience in leading multiple projects and coordinating with internal staff and external consultants, vendors and other stakeholders;
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal);
  • Has a growth and experimental mind-set, with ability to adapt to changes in an organized manner;
  • Ardent nature and expresses humility to learn, can think independently and good attention to details;
  • Good understanding and keen interest in environmental and social issues in Malaysia, related to palm oil industry;
  • Good understanding of business supply chains and sourcing issues;
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Programme suite etc.

Language skills:

  • English and Bahasa Malaysia proficiency;
  • Fluency in Mandarin and Hindi/Urdu/Bengali/Burmese would be an asset.

Working conditions / Physical effort:

  • Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia;
  • Driving skills with valid drivers’ license;
  • Able to spend time out in the field, travelling required (within Malaysia).

Other information:

  • 1-year contract;
  • Immediate start;
  • Malaysian citizenship or valid work authorization required.
