Leading multinational manufacturer becomes TFT member

As of January 2019, The Forest Trust has become Earthworm Foundation.

The Clorox Company, a leading multinational manufacturer and marketer of consumer and professional products, has become TFT’s newest palm oil member.

Taking action

Clorox has already begun to take action to responsibly source palm ingredients, and TFT will support the company as it progresses. In August 2015, Clorox released a commitment to responsible sourcing of palm oil and in March 2016 published its action plan for implementation. Clorox has identified 12 key suppliers that they will focus their efforts on for achieving traceability to the mill level.

Next steps

Through membership, TFT will work alongside Clorox to engage these suppliers in order to gain visibility into their supply chain and use their leverage to drive transformation upstream. Clorox has a goal to achieve traceability to the mill level by December 2017.

Clorox's palm oil

Clorox’s palm oil footprint largely takes the form of oleochemicals containing palm derivatives. Palm derivatives go through several types of manufacturing and end up in much smaller amounts as ingredients in a variety of products.

Dealing with complexity

As such, it presents a complex supply chain, with Clorox several tiers removed from the refiner or mill level. TFT will help Clorox engage suppliers at each of these tiers, and through this work Clorox will be an important catalyst to increase the transparency of supplier companies in the oleochemicals industry.
