Training social managers in the bauxite mining region of Guinea
News Jul 9, 2020

Earthworm Foundation’s Centre of Social Excellence (CSE) Africa is now accepting applications for a 10-month social management course focused on building the capacity of stakeholders living and working in the bauxite mining region of Guinea.

The course begins in January 2021 in Yaoundé, Cameroon and aims to strengthen the skills and knowledge of social practitioners to contribute to the development of Guinea’s bauxite sector in a way that protects and enhances human rights. CSE Africa invites motivated professionals who work with companies, local communities, government agencies and civil society organisations in Guinea’s Boké region to apply for the course.

Selected participants will undertake four months of classroom sessions and field exercises led by international experts at the CSE training centre in Yaoundé, and then will develop a six-month professional project hosted by a company or institution associated with the bauxite sector in the Boké region.

Since 2008, CSE has trained dozens of professionals in Central and West Africa to cultivate constructive stakeholder relationships where natural resource or agricultural development take place. CSE’s graduates contribute to stakeholder mediation and collaboration in a variety of sectors in over ten African countries. With funding from Alcoa Foundation, this course will use this successful model to build capacity for transforming social practice in Guinea’s bauxite sector.

Interested parties should download the Call for Applications and the Reference Form, and send a detailed CV and motivation letter to: cse.team@earthworm.org.
