Earthworm Foundation member 3M's "Green Works" docuseries spotlights how green jobs can help drive a more sustainable future

3 min read

Earthworm Foundation is proud to support the global launch of 3M's new docuseries, "Green Works. " The series debuted at the 2024 Fast Company Innovation Festival and will be featured as part of New York Climate Week (2024).

The series showcases five inspiring individuals working to tackle climate challenges through green jobs—demonstrating these roles' profound impact on creating a sustainable future.

Produced by 3M in collaboration with Generous Films and award-winning director Julio Palacio, 3M’s new docuseries, “Green Works”, delves into the personal journeys of five professionals working to address climate challenges from around the world in Brazil, China, Germany, South Korea, and the U.S. Through roles in renewable energy, electric vehicles, climate education, reforestation, and sustainable fashion, these individuals demonstrate the powerful impact of green jobs on our planet and its future. These stories bring to life how green jobs are helping to build a more resilient planet while creating opportunities for communities worldwide.

Dov Rosenmann, Earthworm Foundation's Country Representative for Brazil, is among the individuals featured. His story sheds light on the importance of sustainable practices in enhancing organisational development and driving positive change to harmonise the relationship between humans and nature.

Through his work in Brazil, Dov encourages us all to be protagonists in our own lives and take charge of the future we want to create.

"Embrace the opportunity to be an agent of change," Dov says in the film. "Embrace the opportunity to create your future, to be the protagonist of your life."

Rosenmann highlights the Earthworm Foundation Brazil Centre for Social Excellence (CSE) Program as an example of this effort. This initiative aims to connect companies to the social action they will take and bolster the capacity of diverse stakeholders to prevent and resolve social conflict by bringing them together to learn best practices for stakeholder consultation, consent, and mediation in dynamic, collaborative courses.

Through this program, CSE Brazil brings forestry, pulp, and paper companies and communities together to discuss better ways to maintain coexistence, generate projects, and achieve positive impact within sourcing territory.

We work among the universe of companies, producers and communities, NGOs, and global brands, articulating innovation through knowledge. We look for the root of every issue and reconnect people with each other and the planet.

This includes meaningful engagement with traditional and Indigenous communities to ensure they have a voice and their rights are respected, including their right to Free, Prior, and Informed Consent. Since its inception in 2018, CSE Brazil has engaged with largely the same subgroup of forestry companies, making it truly a long-term capacity-building program.

3M, through its philanthropic arm 3Mgives, has supported CSE Brazil since its inception in 2018. This work contributes to the overall goal of mitigating environmental and social impacts throughout the 3M supply chain, aligned with the 3M Forest Products Sourcing Policy by building supplier capacity on social management best practices.  Michael Stroik, Vice President of 3Mgives, captures the importance of this work:

"By investing in organisations like Earthworm Foundation, we’re helping to create pathways for individuals to enter the green economy”.

Other stories include climate educators, innovators in renewable energy, and those at the forefront of electric vehicle development, all working to inspire and scale the green economy. As Gayle Schueller, Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer at 3M, emphasises:

"There is an urgent need for more innovative thinking and diverse approaches to address the challenges of climate change."

The docuseries aims to raise awareness about the growing need for green jobs and inspire professionals from all sectors to join the movement. 3M’s State of Science Insights revealed that 75% of people believe green jobs are essential to tackling climate change, with significant growth expected in the green economy over the next five years.
