Palm oil update from Ferrero....
News Jan 4, 2016

The latest news on how Ferrero is implementing its palm oil charter.

As of January 2019, The Forest Trust has become Earthworm Foundation.

The palm oil charter Ferrero launched in 2013 is helping it provide a better understanding of its supply chain, which will help to protect forests and people's rights.

TFT has helped Ferrero to trace its palm oil supply chain.

This has included:

  • Going out into the field and engaging with its palm oil suppliers
  • Tracing its supply chain back to mills and plantations.

As of December 2015, Ferrero had traced its supply chain to 99.5 % of the plantations it sources its palm oil from. So it now know the names and whereabouts of the estates and the parent companies which manage those plantations. This palm oil supply comes from 63 mills and 301 plantations, the vast majority of which originates from Malaysia.

Improving suppliers' practices

In 2015, Ferrero and TFT followed up on its action plan, finding that the majority of its visited suppliers had taken considerable measures to address the issues found in 2014. These issues included:

Further discussions have been had with suppliers who have been unable to impact positive change. This has helped to identify the priority work needed to support these suppliers to improve practices. Ferrero will continue to support suppliers in 2016 to meet its palm oil charter.
