Membership follows six months of collaboration

Since January 2019, TFT has become Earthworm Foundation.

We are pleased to announce that the oil palm and rubber producer Socfin Group has become a TFT member. Socfin Group, which has 15 operations (plantations and factories) in eight African countries and two in Asia, specialises in the development and management of palm oil and rubber tree plantations.

The membership announcement comes after having worked for six months with Socfin Group to develop its new Responsible Management Policy, which was published last December. The policy, which covers all operations within the Socfin Group, comprises best in class commitments for forest conservation and human rights, including: management practices, responsible development of its operations, respecting human rights and supply chain transparency.

Much of the Socfin Group’s plantations are in Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Indonesia – countries which are often associated with high risks of deforestation and social conflict. So the initial focus of our work together will be supporting the Socfin Group to further improve its palm oil and rubber producing practices throughout its 17 subsidiaries.

We will use our 18 years’ experience in the field, in both Africa and Indonesia, to support Socfin Group in implementing its policy in the most effective and efficient way.

Later this year we will report on the progress we are making together in improving practices.
