Working with farmers, companies, and communities in Sorriso, Mato Grosso, to align productive agriculture with forest conservation, restoration, and inclusive growth.
The municipality of Sorriso, located within the Alto do Teles Pires Intermunicipal Consortium for Economic, Social and Environmental Development (CIDESA) in Mato Grosso, is one of the world’s most productive agricultural frontiers and a key soybean hub supplying Brazil and Europe.
Located where the Amazon meets the Cerrado, two ecosystems crucial for climate, biodiversity, and water security, the 9.7 million-hectare landscape combines vast soy and corn fields with forests and native vegetation.
Through the PCI (Produce, Conserve, Include) Pact, a pioneering state-level platform for sustainable development in diverse communities reliant on the land, Sorriso is already advancing sustainable development, uniting farmers, companies, and civil society. Building on this, the Sorriso Landscape initiative, led by Earthworm Foundation and partners, aims to scale sustainable farming, ecosystem restoration, and climate resilience through collective governance, data-driven land use, and inclusive growth for people and nature.
Spanning over 9.7 million hectares, the initiative covers critical soy, corn, and forest areas within the Amazon and Cerrado biomes. The project focuses on climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and inclusive economic growth.
